So, this was a very special wedding for me to photograph. This wasn’t just any bride, but my niece. (You can find her engagement photos here ) And she wasn’t just any niece, but the first of all the cousins to get married! My siblings and I live in different parts of the country, so somehow in all our many years we have never managed to bring all thirteen cousins together in one place at the same time — that is, until now. So this beautiful occasion became extra special as it also became a family reunion! We all adore the groom, too, who met his bride while they worked together at the Summer camp where my sister and brother-in-law also met, and where I also spent many of my own Summers as a young adult. You can imagine that, already, before this wedding even started, I had all the feels going on!
But to know my niece is to love her, and her infectious, cheerful smiles and enthusiasm, and I so enjoyed being a part of every moment of the days preceding the wedding and of course, the day of. We enjoyed a bridesmaid’s brunch the day before (“Girls Gone Mild” ha!), and then as we got ready on the day of the wedding, we got something I didn’t expect (because the forecast hadn’t predicted it) – beautiful snow! Big, giant flakes of snow falling outside, making the day so beautiful and picturesque, a perfect winter backdrop for a Michigan wedding. Then there was the sweetest, most heartfelt ceremony, followed by a reception with the most amazing dessert setup, and a charcuterie table to knock your socks off. And if the sight of the food tables didn’t “wow” enough, one only had to wait for the father-daughter dance, because I gotta say, my brother-in-law NAILED it. Guy has some MOVES.
I have no doubt that this marriage is going to be full of joy, love, laughter and care for a lifetime. I am so blessed to have been a part of it, blessed to be surrounded by so much family, and blessed to know that they will both me so well loved by one another. This is one of the reasons I love my job so much – what better satisfaction is there than to know you get to capture the beauty of these moments and connections that will be so treasured for years to come?
