A Much-Needed Getaway

{ DFW Family Photographer | Destination Family Photographer}

It has been forever and ever – OK, maybe a little less than forever, but six years, and that is WAY too long a time period between family vacations. Now that three of my children have moved out of the house and are busy with school and work, it takes quite a bit to get everyone together in one place (as we try to do for all birthdays and holidays), but somehow we managed to get all seven of us, plus two extra friends and our dog, to Colorado for a long weekend. Of course, this photographer mama wasn’t about to get her whole family up in gorgeous Colorado (where you can actually go outside in the Summer 😉 ) and NOT do pictures! We did do a little sweating when it kept raining (and hailing!) every evening we were there and I was worried pictures wouldn’t happen, but thank the Lord that only a few minutes before we arrived at Palmer Park, the sky broke open, and the sun came out just enough to give us a gorgeous dramatic sky and beautiful light (and no rain!).

We took some time to get some pictures of the kids, a few pictures of my son who is about to be a senior and wanted some senior pictures in that scenery, and pictures of my daughter with her man – some sweet couple shots (and wow, note to self – you get really authentic smiles when you’re telling them to pose with each other and the whole family is watching) – and a few pictures of my daughter’s friend as well, who was also a big help for me (and a quick learner!) and took over my camera so I could sneak into some pictures with my family too, and hang out on the other side of the lens for a change.

I’m so glad to have these images, and recommend that not only should a family not wait so long to have a vacation together, but a family should make it a priority to get everyone for family pictures at least every couple of years! Family portraits are precious heirlooms and bring back such amazing memories, and I’m so very happy to have mine, and I hope you have yours too. If you don’t, I’d love to hear from you – let’s make it happen; let’s get your family some beautiful portraits! Contact me today!
