Cloudy Day in Flower Mound

Okay, so this session was actually a loooonnnnngggg time ago, and I’m just now getting around to blogging it, but I absolutely ADORED this session in Flower Mound, Texas, and have actually had it all queued up to blog for eons and just never actually put it up on the blog for some unknown reason. I know it was Fall, and busy season, and I think I just got, well, busy! But I couldn’t just let this one go, even if it has been a (long) while, because it is one of my favorite sessions of all time.

Any photographer will tell you that we all prefer a sunny session, at least in the evening, when the sun is low in the sky, and we can get that beautiful “golden hour” sunlight. What is “golden hour?” you might ask? Many of my clients ask me when we should schedule our session and I always recommend (if it’s sunny) the last couple of hours of the day, or the first, when the sun is low, the shadows soft, and the colors are deep and warm, and take on that “golden” hue that looks downright magical in camera. The time directly following that (which is just as magical) is a bit “cooler” in hue, and is called the “blue” hour, and we love that, too. A lot of people think we would prefer a cloudy day, because we can avoid squinty eyes and dappled light and bad shadows, and that would be true if we are shooting in the middle of the day, but if it’s at the right time, we like the sun! It just so happens that the world has caught on to this, and there are even online tools to help us out, so we can plan the best times to schedule our sessions, like here.

So it can be disappointing when you have a session scheduled during busy season and there is no sun in sight (except for a rogue brief glimpse) and there is no room for re-scheduling. All hope is not lost, however, not when you have the most adorable family ever, decked out in the cutest outfits, ( I love using Style & Select to help my clients prepare for their sessions), and we play ALL the best games and have a blast the whole time, and the family is ridiculously cuddly, fun and adventurous and up for all my ideas, and full of a bunch of their own ideas as well. Who needs sun when you are bursting with sunshine from the inside out? That’s the kind of “solar power” I like to run on! An hour of nonstop dancing, game-playing, cuddling, giggling, and loving on your favorite people. Perfect.
