Spring Workshops with SallyKate

This February marked the beginning of mini-workshops, something that has become a very important aspect of SallyKate Photography.  I LOVE teaching photography and taking my joy and passion for the craft and aiming to instill that same passion for portrait photography in the hearts of other photographers.  I crave the small-group format, and the opportunity for real relationship, community and inspiration that you can get in a smaller group of like-minded individuals.  I have also been loving the opportunity to work one-on-one with many photographers over the last year, and you will be sure to see posts about that in the (hopefully near) future, here on this blog.

We will start with three indoor mini workshops I conducted in my home in February and March.  I loved the girls who came, and the work they showed me was astounding and inspiring.  AND, we all had so much fun, including our models.  Who wouldn’t want to fish in a bathtub while wearing gigantic flippers and surrounded by bubbles?  Or jump on beds without any adult telling you to stop?  We covered topics like natural light techniques, portraiture with backdrops and window light, lifestyle photography, styling, and using variety.

In April, we had an outdoor workshop, featuring a lemonade stand and an elegant tea party, finished by two 40’s beauties.  Despite the sudden onslaught of heavy rain showers on our tea party, and the storm sirens and looming threat of tornadoes which accompanied us as we all dashed to our cars at the end, it was a fun and inspiring time, and we loved every minute.  I’ll even say that it was worth it when my arm swelled to football size after I laid it in a pile of fire ants.  Hey, I got the photo I wanted.

In early June, I teamed up with the incredible Julie of Julie Peveto Photography, and we hosted an absolutely magical evening of photographic fun at a Lavender Farm in north Texas.  Gold, glittering light, beautiful foliage and surroundings, crazy-amazing models, and an incredible group of photographers made for a spectacular evening that none of us will soon forget.
